Setanta Sports Swindle

I signed up with Setanta on the 3 month @ £5 and £15 for 9 month in May a 12 month contract. They are now selling it at £9.99 per month with no contract. I contacted them and protested about this but was told I was legally bound by the orally agreed contract.I threatened to cancel my direct debit but they said I would still be liable for the money due over the remaining months of my contract.I think this is an absolute swindle and would be grateful if anyone is in the same position and give me some advice on how to get out of the 12 month contract.

If they increased their price to £19.99 would you have phoned them up and offered to give them more money?Disclaimer: Any spelling mistakes or incorrect grammar is purely coincidental and in no way reflects the intelligence of the author.0

As JohnInDebt says, you signed up with them on a given contract which you presumably thought was good value at the time - just because they now have a better offer doesn't mean that your contract should change, unfortunately.0

Same logic as a sale - there was a thread on here about Tesco which named some retailers who will refund you the difference if an item you purchase goes down in price, but this is very much at their discretion and is not enforceable by law.0

I was thinking it would be good customer service to reduce the monthly payments as I have been with them for 3 years but I was told it was orders from top management not to move anyone already contracted to the new deal.I wanted to watch the pre season friendlies so I will just have to pay what is due and wait till the start of next season to see what is on offer. Thanks to all who replied to my post0
