Finacal agreement for musical instruments

Options
Wonder if anyone can advise please, about 8 years ago I took out a ho agreement with a company that visited my daughters school for a musical instrument. The agreement was monthly payment over 3 years and you own instrument (this also included a few lessons thrown in) the payments came out etc. then they stopped, and it's only just recently I've seen that they've been coming out again, monthly.. I cannot find the original contract but I did receive a letter saying I could for £5.00 now buy the instrument. I have cancelled the standing order with my bank and requested the company cease taking payments which now approximately amount to over £800.00, today I have found that they have taken another payment. I've just emailed the company (which was taken over a few years ago) requesting a copy of my agreement with them. I'm I right in thinking they should not be still taking this payment for a hp that was only £350.00 full price?
I know that there is no way I would have agreed to lease hire of it.
Can anyone offer any advice please, or had similar experience (I hope not) Thank you so very much.

How long ago was the last payment (before they restarted)? In other words, for what period were no payments being taken?

Also, was this really a standing order, or was it actually a direct debit.

    Standing Order??

If the money is being transferred by standing order, then you are sending the money to them, not them taking your money.

Stop sending them money... if that's what you want to do.

If you want the money back that you have given them, then you will need to discuss that with them.

Then it probably is a fiddle. ;)
  • Yes it's standing order, I've canceled it with my bank, yet they're still taking it. And there was aprox a 3 year period where they took no payments at all. now I'm being told it's down to me to cancel standing order, which I did, 2 months ago, just to confirm its canceled with my bank I phoned them and they confirmed it as so.

    You need to understand this:
    No-one is taking your money.
If it is a standing order, then it is you that is sending the money without any request from the company.

Ask you bank to refund you all the money that has been sent since you cancelled the standing order.

If it really is a standing order, and not a direct debit, then you need to chase the company that you have been sending the money to.
