Hi All,
Please be gentle it's my first time:). I checked my credit file in the April last year and noticed 2 defaults against an amount of £492, one was issued July 2009 the other November 2010 from a company called Lowell for a debt to a phone company. I wrote to them to tell them I knew nothing of this debt and asked them to provide evidence about it.
Heard nothing just started receiving letters saying I could pay 50 % of the debt so I wrote again, still heard nothing. Next I get a letter threatening me with court I replied in writing that I would be happy to attend court as I was at a miss to who or for what I owed money.
I have just checked my credit file and Lowell have issued another default against the £492 so that's 3 in 6 years !!!! It says my credit file that the default is up in July 2015 after 6 years, will it not be 6 years from the last default making it 2021 ??? I am applying for a mortgage in the summer what is the best solution to me tackling this please

I would class your letter querying the debt as a complaint.
After 8 weeks of no response, you can refer to FOS.

Do it ASAP, it can take months to sort.
If it turns out to be yours, settled and over 3years old you will still get a mortgage from somewhere.:beer:0 -
Thank you so much I will write to the FS0 today. much appreciated.0

Are we taking about 3 separate account entries for the same debt on your credit files?
Or is it just one entry that has 3 "D" or "8" markers for default in the account status history?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi Fermi,
Sorry if I'm vague, it has a D in the box for July 2009, D in the box for November 2010 and D in the Box on May 2014 all the other moths say US. So I assume it is 3 defaults for the same debt. My credit file says default end date July 2015.
Thank You0 -
No. It's not 3 defaults for the same debt.
A D in the monthly status history is just a status update on the original default, not a new default.
Usually it would just list a row of DDDDDDDD..... after the original default each month, i.e. saying still in default, so the interspersed UCs are a bit messed up, but it's no big thing.
The original and only default is the one on the main part of the entry where it should say something like "default date: dd/mm/yyy"
So assuming an original default of July 2009 and a listed drop off date of July 2015, then the default, the account and every piece of history about it will drop off your report in July.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Sounds like it will drop off in July this year, maybe just best waiting till it drops off?
Also wait until it no longer shows on you file before applying for a mortgage. All that glitters is not gold.0 -
Thank you both so much, I am intrigued as to why the debt is against me but I think it's wise as you both said to wait until it drops off in July.
Thank You both once again0 -
I had the same thing with lowell and have repeatedly rang and written to request further information. They have even told me they've posted it yet nothing has arrived. Tbh I think they're just carrying on telling me this because they have nothing but only time will tell.Number 054 - 'Save 12k in 2017' thread - £10,000 target
