Garage Converison Questions....

Options
Hi, not posted for ages so here goes..!
I intend to have my 4.8m x 2.6m garage converted to a living space. Currently it has the other end studded, insulated and plaster boarded and has a double socket there too along with a light which we will change to a more modern looking one!

I will have the garage door removed and bricked up (with foundations as required) and a window installed by a builder. I will also have an electrician come in and provide and extra socket or two and a plasterer to do their thing. Building regulations adhered to as we go along.

However, I am hoping to do the stud work, insulation and plaster boarding myself together with the floor. However, I have a couple of questions if I may...

a. Floor - it is currently 1400mm lower than the rest of the house. I intended to lay DPM, timber frame, insulate and chipboard and then lay (probably) Karndean. However I am a bit concerned that the 1400mm may be a large void to fill and hard to get level - what size joists would be ok to use, bearing in mind the chipboard may be around 19mm + Karndean a couple of mm, I guess it would have to have a frame consisting of around 1200mm - is this acceptable? How would I fix these to the concrete floor? Joist Hangers or direct to floor (big screw!)

b. Wall - the wall that is at the side of the house - would this itself need insulating as per the opposite wall which is not connected to anything? Or would a dot and dab with plaster board suffice? There is a drainpipe that I would need to box around too - would I have to provide access to this at top and bottom in case of issues?

c. Ceiling. Currently the front is pitched and the rest flat roof. Heavy chipboard is on top of the joists (probably around 250mm thick). Can I simply (?) DPM, insulate from there and plasterboard?

Grateful for any replies. I will be speaking to the BC guy but it is always nice to have some information beforehand.

Regards

Do you wish it classified as a room or to be a room if you wish it classified as one to sell etc then all the works would need to be in conjunction with whatever your BC deems necessary often much unnecessary BS if not you can do what many do simply leave garage door in place insulate behind it then stud wall walls floors ceilings as you wish, If you want window at the front you can have garage door with glass in it and make frame work behind it to allow light in,
    gives you joist sizes
