Replacement Renault key card

Hi,
Our Grand Espace doesn't have a key, it has one of these cards that you insert to turn the ignition on and just need to be close to the car for it to be unlockable.
Not surprisingly, this piece of electronics doesn't function after going through the washing machine.
Does anyone know how we get a new one?
Will we have to go through Renault?
Will we be charged an arm and a leg?
Are there dodgy internet sites that will claim to do it cheaper but rip you off?
Thanks,
Jim

At least an arm and a leg. Probably your first born for many generations also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Have a search for the Laguna Key Card guy. I'm sure it'll be the same system and the fix (although it was a couple of years ago) was buttons.0

That (supposedly, though I've never quite worked out how) gets you inside the car, but it doesn't let you start the car.forgotmyname wrote: »Use the key thats inside the card?

We're in West Norfolk, but do travel from time to time so all suggestions are welcome.Marktheshark wrote: »Depends where you live, guy in Bradford repairs as you drink coffee for £25
Though don't tend to go anywhere near Bradford, so that particular one's not looking likely.0 -
My wife had a new key like this for the Grand Scenic, it cost £180 from the dealer.
I believe you can get it done without going via the dealer and it's a lot cheaper, read the note above. Unfortunately my wife went ahead and got it done without checking the net!Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
The guy in Bradford does a postal service and is quick, he advertises on e-bay.
To be honest, on Renault could come up with something as crap as the keycard idea.I do Contracts, all day every day.0
