Recycling centres that allow you to take away

Hi There,
I recently found out that my local Re-use and recycling centres have stopped allowing people to take things away - which kind of completely misses the point of what recycling and re-using is!
I'm really upset about it, as I prefer to use recycling centres rather than have another forest cut down by Swedish flat packers.
So I'm putting together a list of recycling centres that still allow you to take away, and will happily make it available to anyone else. But obviously need your help...
So if anyone knows of recycling centres that DO allow you to take items away, whether sale or for free, then please leave a comment below.

I used to work for a London Council. We had to stop allowing residents to take anything off site for a number of reasons.
1) Some of the material is valuable. The income from selling it helps the council to reduce the overall cost of the service.
2) Allowing residents to take material off site opens up opportunities for fraud by the staff working on the site - asking for and pocketing money in return.
3) It opens up the council to a potential lawsuit if the resident is subsequently injured or contracts and infection using or handling the material.
The best thing with unwanted items that still have left left in them is to avoid the waste stream altogether, for example through https://www.freecycle.org
We did however sort out furniture that was suitable for reuse, separate it, and store it for collection by a charity.
Waste electrical equipment was refurbished if possible, or stripped down for the parts to be reused or recycled.0 -
