Tesco current account: application rejected

I recently applied for Tesco's new account. However, I received a letter declining my application stating that Tesco were 'unable to confirm application details'. Does anyone know what this really means? The person on the phone couldn't give me any more information, but said I could appeal.
If it had said that my credit score was too low, I would know how to appeal. But this I don't. Help!

They check the ID (not the history) - typically with the electoral roll and CRAs.
I guess they were unable to do this in your case or there were some discrepancies.

If you appeal enclose usual copies proving your ID and address.
  • I've never had this problem in the past and I am on the electoral roll, but I'll give that a try. Thanks
  • Also, I applied from within online banking, as I already have savings accounts with them. Surely they ran these checks when I opened those?

That could be all sorts of things, doesn't have to be your ID and address. For example, if you are employed, they might check with your employer, or they might check that your income is similar to the income you provided for other applications (at other banks).

If you want to appeal, you need to ask them which of the details they were unable to confirm.

They wouldn't tell me over the phone, so I will try asking in writing.
