Cancelling Experian

Joined with the free trial, cancelled by email using their recommended format, they acknowledged receipt of my email and said they would reply within 5 days. Which they did, telling me unfortunately in order to cancel, I had to phone them! Meanwhile, they relieved me of £14.85.

Normally you have to phone to cancel these things but the people are usually very nice.
I had a great experience when I cancelled my Experian. When I signed up for the free trial I never received my code through the post (probably because I moved house) and I never did anything about it (silly me!) so I ended up getting charged for about 6 months. Why I never rang up an cancelled after they took the first payment I will never know....
Anyway I eventually rang and explained that I had never received my code and therefore never accessed my credit file with them. The chap was really helpful and explained that because I had moved house they couldn't send another code to a different address for security purposes. I accepted this. I should have phoned them sooner.
Then without any further prompting he confirmed my bank details with me so that they could process a full refund. I was expecting to have to battle for this! I was really chuffed.
OK it means I didn't get the free trial and now they have my details I can't ask for a new one, but when the time comes for a mortgage quote I can still get my £2 report.
I'm sorry this doesn't really answer your question, but it is fairly standard practice for them to ask you to phone to cancel.Debt free on 2nd January 2015Next savings goals:£5k emergency fund£4k holiday of a lifetime fund0 -
Until recently Experian/Credit expert had it on this page
http://help.creditexpert.co.uk/help/sv635/Cancel_and_duration/cancel_membership
that you could email to cancel membership without any limit on that.

Now seems that they have amended the page to say you can only do that within the 1st 14 days.

I must have done, but it was only a few days ago and I copied and pasted the email format they requested.

Hi Theskewbald,
I understand that you were not expecting to be charged, and am sorry this was the case. I can take a look at your membeship for you if you email your details to uksocialsupport@experian.com
We do ask that you call to cancel, unless you are within 14 days of starting the trial or reactivating, when you can then email us.
The full details of how to cancel can be found here
I look forward to hearing from you.
