I received a spam email from www.planetmicro.co.uk this morning. Although I am subscribed to their newsletter this was a definite spam advertising chinese shares etc. I knew that although the "from" address can be spoofed I give unique email addresses to everyone and this was sent to my planetmicro address. I contacted them to tell them that either one of their computers was infected/sending out spam or my address had been leaked by their company to spammers somehow.
I have done this with two other companies when I had phishing scams sent to my unique addresses for them. The two previous instances: Aria technology refused to believe they could be responsible and patronised me on the way email works and RGMedia never even responded to my concerns about my data being leaked from them.
This is in vast contrast to planetmicro's response, their IT manager contacted me back himself quite quickly and had taken me seriously (even thanked me for bringing it to their attention) and confirmed an infected computer on their network and that they were stopping ALL outgoing emails until they resolved the matter.
So I'd like to praise Planetmicro's actions in taking a problem I reported seriously, acting swiftly and not ignoring me through technical arrogance and not patronising me in any way. I only wish more companies were like this and didn't treat their customers like idiots.

"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
