Who do I owe money to?

Options
Hi, I was wondering if any one could give me some advice please. I've moved abroad in 2011. I recently requested my credit report from all 3 agencies, but they only show information up until 2011 (my last UK address). I think my debt must have been sold on to a few collection agencies by now. I really want to settle my debt now but I don't know who I owe money to. How can I find out who my debt is with now if it doesn't show on my credit file?

Many thanks.

  • Did you give them your new address when checking your reports?

If so, this will create a link and alert any DCAs to your new address.

So if you wait, letters may start arriving.

You can also write to the last people to report the account to your report.

  • Thank you very much Happy Bunny. I did give the agencies my new address. Should I just contact the original lender by email and ask them for a report on my account with them? Is it possible that a bank doesn't sell an unsecured debt and just holds on to it after 4 years of no payments or contact?
  • Possible.

They will tell you who they sold it to. Then you can follow the trail :)

Otherwise, they nay well find you like I mentioned.

May be able to settle for less after this time.

    Good luck.

Experian operate a service called GAIN (Gone Away Information Network). When you reappear creditors will be notified of your new address.
  • Thanks a lot for the advice guys. :) Yeah I definitely want to try to offer them F&F now. There are no ways of sending small amounts of money abroad from my current location anyway so regular payments isn't an option.
