Syrzia Won!

Well Syrzia won the election in Greece:

http://www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_articles_wsite1_1_26/01/2015_546524

2 seats short of a majority in Parliament so it should be pretty simple to put together a Government. The Commies (KKE) got 15 seats so it looks like a hard left, anti-Euro, anti-austerity, pro-default Government is on the cards.

We live in interesting times. The news will have been largely discounted across European stock markets but we can expect further falls on Monday I expect.

It's a lose lose for Europe. Cave in and you're setting yourself up for more copycats and dont, the empire starts to crumble. Either way, there is trouble ahead.

London must be looking like a sea of tranquility.

I was pleased to see that the tories have gone marginal favourites on betfair, in the 'win most seats' market, it wasn't so long ago that they were about 11/8, they are currently slightly shorter than 20/21. But it looks like the election is going to be quite a closely run race, very difficult to call at the moment.

Do the Greeks realise that they have chosen a party whose program is suicide if carried out?

Does Syriza realise that if they want to keep the Euro and stay in the EU they will have to renounce most of their program?

As for the EU, well I'm sure they have realised by now but that's yet another piece of news proving that the priority is to be realistic instead of allowing countries in just because of a dream.

It's a lot easier to be radical when you are not the Government

    Time for a reality check.

Iceland seems to be doing alright having resfused the cries of rich savers to be bailed out.

Greece have to default. The best way to do it would be to quit the Euro and redemoninate debts into neo-Drachma. Then they can simply print the currency needed to repay the debts.

That is a default as people don't get back what was promised. It retains a figleaf of respectability however.
