Registering as self-employed
terri
About 6 weeks ago I sent the appropriate form to HMRC to register as self-employed (sole trader). I heven't heard anything back from them yet and I was wondering how long they would usually take before replying? Thanks.

Apparently there's a 3 month backlog (great!).
I would call them if I were you - they'll mark you down as needing to send in a return (although not self employed just yet) and get a letter out to you stating as such. This means you'll have a bit of proof you're on their system....
I wouldn't worry though, it will get done!0 -
I done it over the phone and it was done within a week, I would say phone them, it only took 5 mins (I always avoid filling out forms as I have the worst handwriting!)
I was not aware of the backlog, I thought the backlog was on VAT registrations?, I could be mistaken.
Good luck with your venture
