Being made Redundant even though more work is coming in

I have just been told I am at risk of being made redundant and is likely to happen next week. However it is general knowledge the company I work for have lots of new work coming in soon which they will more than likely use contractors for at literally twice the rate of pay as myself. I have offered to go part-time at 2 days a week, what if they refuse this even though all the new work comes in? Also how can I prove this new work has come in? I believe my company has a culture of cleaning out staff every few years then immediately hiring new staff but I don't believe I should lie down and accept this from a global company without a fight.

  • How long have you worked there? If it's less than 2 years they can get rid of you for almost any reason they want, as long as it's not a protected characteristic (gender, race, etc)

This is becoming standard practice for a few companies they have an annual reorg/cull.

Outsourcing/using contractors reducing the need for full time staff is perfectly legal.

If you are any good get one of the contractor jobs.

More work coming in unfortunately is not your concern. They may choose to go with contractors and as said above it is a common practice for companies to reduce their liabilities. Of course there are business reasons too.
I'm not sure if you can get one of the contractor roles right away after permanent job is made redundant. I know there are rules around it but not sure if it is by law or policy of some company's.

Again more work coming is irrelevant and wouldn't have any standing as far as I'm concerned.
