We are driving via Chunnel to Duinrell this summer. We are considering heading over day before and stopping for a night. Get an afternoon in somewhere to break up the journey.
Any recommendations of a nice place for us all and a cheap hotel/B&B for 2 adults and 4 kids?

Where do you live? If in the North, have you considered the overnight P&O ferry from Hull to Rotterdam? About an hour from Duinrell, and it'll save petrol as well as B&B cost. Might be more expensive overall but a lot less driving and a lot more relaxing. We are driving via Chunnel to Duinrell this summer. We are considering heading over day before and stopping for a night. How about Gent? It's quite pretty but not as touristy as Bruges. It's only just over an hour (or an hour and a half depending on your driving) from Calais. You could try airbnb for a large apartment or house on the outskirts. Or Antwerp as you have to drive round it to get to Holland.0

Ostende? ok its not far into your jounery but its where I stop on way back.going I usually go via Harwich-hook of Holland ferry and then its just a short drive to camp.0

Those are definitely worth considering thankyou. Gent looks a good option. We'll be heading from southwest so Chunnel is good choice for us.0

Bruges is just over an hour from Calais - or depending on your 'train' and how much you want to spend 'De Efterling' is a wonderful theme park/family park in Holland not to far over the Belguim/Dutch border. Well worth a visit - we love it as it is not commercialised. Well worth googling.
Or you could drive to near Duinrell to Servenigenn (sp) which is a lovely beach town really nearby.
Enjoy your holiday- we have family near Rotterdam and it is a lovely country.0
