GDHIF - do I need gas to install a 'waste water heat recovery system'?

I'm a little cheesed off that even though the (2009) EPC for our 1960s built townhouse we bought recently is F (the second lowest rating), there seems to be no way for us to take advantage of the Green Deal cashback scheme due to the fact that:

- We are not on mains gas (hence we can’t upgrade the boiler)
- We are slightly over 50% double-glazed (even though it’s a very old-style aluminium glazing with low U values)
- We have only one external door (even though we have another door leading to an internal garage that’s completely unheated, which I cannot get a straight answer on as to whether it counts as external – it really should!)
- Cavity wall insulation (the cheapest measure) was done before we bought the property (seems it was done after the 2009 EPC)
- We cannot do floor insulation as we have original electric underfloor heating in the concrete which would be blocked
- We have a flat roof but the old adage with such roofs seems to be 'if it ain't leaking don't touch it' and to reinsulate would probably involve redoing the entire thing. I believe it has some insulation anyway.
- We have no loft (flat roof)
- We have no warm air unit
- We could install fan-assisted storage heaters (but then we wouldn’t have an additional measure to make us eligible)
- I am unsure about a waste water heat recovery system as we do not have mains gas

On the last point, I've read a few websites on waste water recovery systems which refer to both boilers and cylinders. Could we use such a system with an electronically heated water cylinder?

We are thinking of getting a new cylinder anyway (the Dimplex Quantum one) along with the same brand of storage heaters, so it would make sense to do it all at the same time.

Thanks in advance.

    You are running a hotel?

Assuming 50% recovery rate, you would be lucky to get £50 worth a year for a residential property.

My GDA suggest that a waste water recovery system will save me £14 a year for an outlay of about £650 which gives a payback of about 46 years on top of which we live in a bungalow so there's no way the water could flow through it.

Just Google waste water recovery systems to see what they are and how they work and really decide if saving £15-20 a year is really worth all the hassle and cost of installing one, assuming that you could - in my view it aint't

Other gems from my GDA are Solar water heating for £4k-6k to save me £63 a year, payback is only 63 years, a wind turbine with a pay back or over 20 years or solar PV paying back over about 9-10 years.
Floor insulation is estimated to pay back in 19 years and would be great if we could fit it under the underfloor heating.

In my view a total waste of time, money and effort excepting that we had to get a GDA so I could claim RHI on my air source heatpump.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
