ideas for small business

Options
I am setting up a small company with the view of importing items to sell online.

What do you think is popular and will sell relatively easy, I am thinking micro SD memory cards, mid-range small electronics and may be ladies jewellery. Do you think the market is saturated with such goods?

Ideas appreciated.

thank you,

Are you setting up a company or a sole trader business? There are some big differences.

To be fair, no-one who has a successful business is going to tell you what sells well. They don't want even more competition. It's a cut throat business and your competitors are rarely your friends.

If I was you, I would do a LOT more research. Memory cards are one of the riskiest products to get in to due to all the fakes being produced.
  • Surely you wait until you have the idea before you start the business??

Totally saturated and I'm sure you'll make pennies or less on each item.

You'll have to work a lot harder than this to find a way of making money.

Perhaps the best way to come up with a good idea is to search through the history here on Mse, there are hundreds if not thousands of things people have tried. See if any takes your fancy.

    thank you,

Personally the items you mention are the last things I would ever consider importing and selling.

If I were to challenge someone to pick three bad lines and they chose those, I wouldn't be surprised at all. SD fakes are rampant with low margins. Electronics, low margin, high returns rate for defects, you have to indemnify the quality for import. Jewellery is high margin for premium brands, but they become premium by not selling to just anyone and spanking millions on marketing.

Other bad ideas may include fashion lines, pyrotechnics and lions, if that helps?!
