YouTube buffering issues in Firefox? Fixed!

THE SOLUTION:
Install the "Greasemonkey" add-on:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/
Install the "YouTube Auto Buffer & Auto HD" add-on for Greasemonkey:
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/494-youtube-auto-buffer-auto-hd
THE EXPLANATION:
Occasionally I've had problems playing back YouTube videos -- they don't seem to buffer properly. And I've noticed the same problem on other PCs.
A few years ago, YouTube started using DASH to stream video, and this seems to be the root of the problem. Instead of the whole video being buffered, it's buffered in small sections. For some unknown reason, the buffering process seems to grind to a complete halt. It's worse at peak times and on slow Internet connections.
(I wonder if my ISP limits bandwidth to YouTube during peak times, even though they say they don't.
)
Anyway, there's an add-on called Greasemonkey that allows you to create scripts to modify JavaScript on certain websites. And there's a particular Greasemonkey script that disables DASH (and allows you to selects your preferred video quality) in YouTube.
Install Greasemonkey and the autobuffer script (links above) and you should find that buffering actually works again! Hooray!

I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for ages, so I just thought I'd share it with you...

I have seen the same issue that you describe, I don't watch much on YouTube but it's useful to know that a solution exists should I need it.0
