We have just got our second Dog and was wondering weather or not people thought it is worth getting a double lead or not. I've had a little look and most of the ones I've seem are Nylon, They currently have Leather leads which are comfortable to hold and very hard wearing, they are not stong dogs so don't really want to put them on chains.

When we had two dogs I always used to walk them on their own leads. I've never tried with a double lead but always felt it would be easier with individual ones. I think you've got more control.0

I've walked two dogs on a 'coupler' (what the two into one links are called) and unless both dogs are very well trained, I don't think it helps as you'll get one dog always puling the other dog the way they want to go, and the strongest one wins. Far better to walk them on a lead each (and preferably totally seperatly so you get 'quality time' with each one and they don't bond with each other)Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I used to have 2 rottweilers and each had their own lead but they both walked on the same side. We all got entangled a few times but they soon got used to it and the younger dog followed the pace of the older dog who walked on the outside.
This leaves one arm free for carrying stuff or whatever.0 -
Im not keen on double leads at all.
I would get 2 leads and hold them on separate arms0 -
our 6 chihuahuas have a a tripler for three of them and another tripler for the other three. Walkies are such fun!!
We had the most fantastic leather leads with the attachments from a site called groovypets, but i dont think they accept orders anymore as i've tried contacting them a few times recently. I would not use the nylon ones ever again as the dogs got into such a tangle we just ended up with a heap of chihuahuas!! I have been looking for some good leather ones and i think ordering from america is probably your best bet. I have looked at these leads and couplers but havent ordered yet. http://www.houndsaroundtown.com/restraint/couplers.htmlProud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
I bought a beautiful leather lead from http://www.canis-equus.co.uk/product/view/14
Everything is traditionally made and stitched by hand, so she can make just about anything to order as well, including double leads.
I think the double lead thing is just personal choice really. Some dogs walks nicely on them, some don't, and some people feel more control with both dogs on their 'best' side.
Why not just try it and see what feels best for you? When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
it all depends if your dogs walk nicely together? I prefer separate leads for my two - more control that way, also one walks a little ahead of the other so that would be no good for my dog who trails behind :rotfl:0
