hi there wasn't so sure as to where to post so sorry if in wrong place
I live with my mother and brother in a NIHE property and my mum and I are joint tenants. My mum gets a bit of housing benefit help but I still have quite a lot to pay each month in rent and it is set to increase again.
We had applied last year to buy this property but to get full discount my mum would need to be on application, deeds and mortgage but we were stuck as my mum is 81 and we could not get a mortgage with her because of her age
Can anyone advise if there is anyway at all we can get around this catch 22 situation....

Firstly, what is a NIHE property?
If you cannot afford the rent between 3 of you, you must be on such low incomes that you would not get a mortgage. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

How much discount would you get on your own .You can buy it in joints names with your brother ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

Northern Ireland Housing Executive I think.0 -
It may be a good idea to post this on the Northern Ireland board. The rules will be very different from English rules I would imagine so you may get a bit more relevant info on there.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

NIHE would be similar to council on mainland
it has nothing to do with paying the rent it has to do with the fact that is would be much cheaper to pay a mortgage each month ..0 -
you need to speak to a broker .The mortgage is possible with your mum on it .The problem would come if your mum went into a home .

thanks we will apply and see how much it would be to buy property in two names
probably make more sense and less hassle for mum0
