Changing appointment for DWP visit

I have had a letter from DWP this morning which I am completely taken aback by. I have asked to be an appointee for my son who is 16. They want to visit us on Thursday 29th and will arrive between 9 am and 5 pm. They dont give you a more specific time.
The Visiting Officer will try to phone before the visit, possibly the same morning, to give a better idea of their estimated time of arrival.
This is ridiculous. I have a job and taking time off at such short notice is really difficult, never mind that fact that all my holidays are booked and I am probably going to have to lose a day's wages.
If I knew in advance what time they were going to come I could probably arrange something with work so that I could come home and go back after the appointment.
Anyone else had problems with this? I am going to have to ring DWP on Monday but I just wondered how helpful they might be.

Give them a call and tell them what you have written above, that they need to be more specific with the time as you will be at work. Do you work local to where you live? If so then the Visiting Officer could phone you half an hour beforehand and you could go home. Or even better they could make your visit the first one of the day at 9am but it may not be practical for them to do this. But you could ask them if this is possible.0

I would be stronger than that on the phone. Tell them you work and either need an appointment first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon. At least that way you can be sure it won't be more than 1/2 a day off work.0
