Hi, all.
I know there must be loads of you out there who know this answer (except me).
How do you convert your old vinyl to your PC.
I have a fair idea what software to use, audacity and nero perhaps, but dont have a clue on what I need to convert it.
I have a ASUS Motherboard with sound card inputs on it, so I have a line in socket and the usual stuff.
I also have a turntable with built in preamp, with two leads which normally go into the back of my stereo, do I need an adapter for it, or do I need to use something else.
Thanks in advance.

Your soundcard should have a stereo line in so, as your turntable has a preamp, all you need is an adaptor cable with sockets to plug in the lead from the hifi with a stereo minijack at the other end. These are fairly widely available.
Although using Audacity is fine you may want an audio restoration program like Magix Audio Cleaning Lab or Steinberg Clean.0 -
If you cant sort this out you can email me and i will send a number and i will talk you through the process.0

Thanks for the advice, I have managed to get playback on my pc using the leads suggested, is there anyway I can clean up the quality of the recording.
By the way im using Nero for this, Ive looked for Magix audio and Steinberg as you have suggested, is there any cheaper alternatives, Im just a skinflint really!Old Faithful we roam the range together,

I'm afraid these are the cheap skinflint options. You sometimes find older versions going cheap. Alternatively try some shareware/freeware:
