Selling Car Advice V5C

If I sell my car to another person How do I know they are going to send of the form to the DVLA for change of ownership or is there a part of the form I can send of to DVLA to make sure they know I do not own the vehicle anymore. thankyou in advance

  • You get them to sign the green slip, fill in all details on the back of the log book and you tear off the slip, give it to them and you post the main part.
    Failure to do so will result in fines building up for DVLA, parking, speeding, tax, not SORN.
    Hence why you post it and obtain a certificate of postage as well which is free from the post office, hand the letter to the counter clerk and ask for a certificate of postage.

    It's all clearly explained on the V5C. It is your legal responsibility to notify DVLA.

    As above if you give them the document then you wont know if they will change the details or just give your details until they have racked a load of tickets.

    They changed it a long time ago, So that its the sellers legal responsibility to send off the V5C with the new keepers details. You just give them the new keeper slip (only)
