Sat/Sun 24/25 Jan 2015. What small dfw stuff will you do this weekend?

Smile Friday 23 January - What small DFW things will you do today?
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

    Hi All

Thought I would start us off.

WM on cheap rate. Tried to trade in amaz*n books but they were all not eligible, suspect they are too old. So lucky CS will benefit.

Will not get much done today. Mr T coming at 10. Then DS2 having mates over to play with toys in field. They will all need feeding. 10, 23 year olds, thought stew and mash. Got a slab of meat from freezer yesterday and already defrosted nicely. DH can cut it up, I am too busy decluttering.

Going to a funeral of a lovely lovely lady at 1, meeting friend for coffee at 11.30 to prepare ourselves, MUST NOT break down and make a fool of ourselves in front of whole mourners etc, lovely lady was just an acquaintance, MUST keep control. Only 57 and all our children grew up together, she was a delight and coped through some very very tough and sad times always with a smile. So, I will distract myself with tidying and then whilst at church, will stay outside so unable to see children, will mentally write lists of jobs that require doing this evening. Working on this theory I will either do loads and loads, or NOTHING. Not bothered which.
Was trying to rush to finish my book to amazo8n it, but can slow down now.
Have a good day everyone. Maria
  • Morning Maria and thanks for starting the thread. Sorry to hear your sad news, hope the funeral goes well.

Will book airport parking and research currency - we go to Cape Verde in 2 weeks :T
Paint windowsill and bathroom door - if I'm not too lazy might get 2 coats on....
Go for a walk with gdg and oh later
    Watch a film this evening
All meals from stores - need to think of some packed lunch ideas
Call friend for a catch up or see if she wants to meet up
    Do an hours work
Go up in the loft and look for something
List 5 items on facebay/ebay - all this talk of de cluttering has got me excited!
Try to convince oh to do a tip run

Ok think that's everything. Have a lovely weekend x

  • Updated signature as Mr T has been. Lovely delivery man again. Are they all this nice all over UK? 1 substitution, fat ice cream for DD instead of yog ice cream. She will just have to get fat over the weekend!

May have overdone the turkey foil on offer, 3 rolls, but I do have 10 turkeys in the freezer, so....maybe.

Right, all on target for something. Done ironing, put away, found another load in WM full elec, WILD!

    To do

Find 10 books to put in CS along with 3 pairs of shoes already in truck.
May let DD decide whether we are starting declutter work in back kitchen, serious issues there or DS1 bedroom, the OMG room. Will be fun to see if she falls into the trap of picking, rather than slumping in front of TV declining any option.

    Off to find 10 books.

    Morning everybody :)
Sorry to hear about your friend Maria :( I am rubbish at funerals too, and indeed any occasion where others are likely to be upset :o

    For me today:
Tidy up and wash kitchen and hall floors - done :)

Chickens fed - done, one egg already :)

Walk to town later, need to get out some cash for a flea market tomorrow. If I buy anything it will most likely be a business spend, and any cash that doesn't get spent can go straight back in the bank on Monday to avoid it being frittered away.

Check banks - I am going to make a minimum payment (about £5) on my Santander 123 cashback credit card. In the branch they set up a direct debit to pay it off in full just before the due date, but just in case this doesn't work....

Use up rest of the Thai green chicken curry I made last night for supper. We don't mind having something more than once if it is nice :)

Make a pan of soup using ingredients I already have.

Declutter another drawer. I have been doing quite well at decluttering lately. Not easy when your business involves buying and selling, but I do try to avoid the house looking like a junk shop  In doing so though, things tend to get shoved in cupboards and drawers, and I have a LOT of cupboards and drawers

Ocado delivery later - must update the GC thread when I get the invoice - I will have gone over my budget by the end of the month :o It has been a long month, especially as my challenge started on 27 December  I went over in December as well - must do better next month!

    Right, better get on :)
  • Morning all

Maria- I hope things go ok this afternoon, I usually loose it at funerals as well.

Have been up since silly o'clock again today and have so far:
cleaned kitchen cupboard doors, surfaces and done some decluttering. swept lounge floor declutter a few items in there too. Mostly to the bin.

Cleaned bathroom and decluttered empty bottles etc from there as well as items that have lurked for years and not been used! I am sick of moving them to clean round them!

made slimming world quiche x 2 with fridge items

Possibly sold items on fb selling pages, someone coming to look later that will be good.

Need to plan my shop as have a £5 of voucher to use, want to get some storecupboard staples.

Need to go and take a pic of a car seat I have at my mums so I can send to someone who was interested on fb.

Have counted 10 bags of 1p's so that will be £10 for the bank!

Put some loose change I found whilst cleaning up in my sealed pot.

am hoping to do some more batch cooking today so off to get the meat from my mums freezer so I can do this tonight, it really helps me to have something I can pull out of freezer in the week otherwise I nip to the shop for something quick and bang goes the diet and the budget!!

Looking forward to hearing everyone's updates

    Meal planning and cooking, mostly.

I've pulled out a couple of old vouchers that I need to check are still good. If they are, then I'll get myself a couple of little treats. :) If not, never mind.

maria3104 don't be so hard on yourself over funerals, it's fine to cry. When I was involved with my local church I asked our lovely vicar what she was doing one day - she was playing a particular track of music over and over. It was for a funeral and she was de-sensitising herself beforehand so that she could have her 'professional face' on when it came to the actual funeral.

I am aiming to spend part of the day (and tomorrow) cooking. I set myself a tough target for January of using up what I had in stores plus the small amount of cash in my purse. I went over budget yesterday (have a little extra as mum gave me cash for my birthday) as I bought plain yoghurt, fruit yoghurt (large tub should do 4 breakfasts with porridge oats stirred in) and marg (so I can bake).

I still have a drawer full of meat in the freezer (bought on November 8th, I went into hospital for a total hip replacement on the 13th, and didn't have time to make it into meals - the turkey got cooked, sliced, portioned and frozen that weekend).

So today I am making a large pan of bacon soup (mainly green lentils and barley), individual quiches without pastry and am going to try some breakfast muffins with bacon and leek (3/4 of a leek, all the white part, bought on December 20th and chopped and put away when it started to turn), Turkey stew with the third and last parcel of the brown turkey meat (I keep eating the cabbage/carrot/leek and celery mix in handfuls with a teaspoon of dressing but have more cabbage and carrot). Tomorrow probably curry and biscuits (kitchen is like an icebox atm so keep putting it off), possibly potato pie using a leg chop instead of corned beef (don't have this very often now but have a jar of red cabbage so using what I have - mum gave me half her potatoes last week).

Have just tried on my black linen trousers and they fit and I can get them on. I have been invited for a meal to celebrate my cousin's sixtieth in a few weeks. i will be off crutches but still need to wear lace up boots. Have just graduated to normal socks instead of bed socks (needed loose one s after the op) but atm am not allowed to bend to put socks on or tie shoelaces and thought tights would be impossible (aggravate my scar). Now I know I can get the trousers on I have a dress I can wear (it's too short without trousers or thick tights) I only need to buy a new cardigan from the cs (had already established that my current summer cardigan needed replacing but was going to sew one (+ a spare) from material I already have - but this event is too soon and I can't use the machine yet.

I also brought back some elastic from my mum's stash so that I can repair a jumper I am currently wearing (one of DS1's cast-offs). it has a small hole under one arm (catch it before it gets worse) and the cuffs are fraying and loose so will turn them under and put elastic in. Have thread in my sewing box.

I have read this thread often but never posted before.
