Mobile phone techyish question..

Got a text through today off somebody and it came up as just their number and not their name. I've got an SPV and to get the name to come up the number has to be saved as +4479~~~~~ and not 079~~~~ etc.
This text came through as 0794~~~~

Any reasons why it may have done it? texting from an online account? what happens from texts from abroad? will the number still come through as +44 as it's come through the UK exchange? I rang them and got a UK ring sound rather than the du du .... du du.... you normally get when people are abroad..
Any ideas?

Not sure on the SPV but I know that with Nokia's they will only show the number if it on the phone book and sims or if you have an additional number saved to the same name (this may have changed on newer models)

Could be that the phone need an international code to recognise the number, although I'm assuming others with the +44, etc, show correctly.

The other thing is it may have been sent from a website which requests the mobile number before allowing it to be sent and as some websites giving free texts are international that maybe the reason.

the number is in my phone as a +44 unless somebody else has changed it. Just suspect she's gone away / out of the country for a few days.

I'm surprised by this. In my experience the phone recognises the number either way, with or without +44 prefixed. Have you perhaps switched the memory in use between Phone, SIM, or Both and this number is in the one that's not in use?
