On the beach holiday

Hi wonder if anyone could help, about this time last year, i booked a holiday for 4 adults to Egypt hurghada, for last sept, we was meeting friends there for their last 4 days of their holiday, on the day 2nd tues we got to the airport, we went to check in and was told there was no flights to hurghada till friday, our hearts sank, this was our 1st big holiday on a plane, we was told that OTB was told in march a number of times, i phoned them up to be told we will ring you back, 1 hour later i rang them back, they told us that they was very sorry, they couldn't apologise enough but if we wanted to go to hurghada we would have to wait till friday, my brother was in 6th form, so going later was not good for him as he was back at school in 7 days, i asked about sharm el sheikh, they told us we could go on thursday so we said yes, they said we can look for a hotel then phone them when we are home, so very sad we went home, we saw a few hotels we liked, but kelped been told it was fully booked up, and they offered us really poor hotels after about 2 hours i snapped at them, they then ring me up and said the 1st one you wanted you can have, we managed to find you space, but when we go there the hotel was half empty, I just wanted to know if there was anything i could do, do i have any rights, i have a nice holiday in the end, but it was really spoilt because of what we had to go though.

OMG, that is TERRIBLE!

So you turn up for your flight, but your flights hadn't been booked?
Then you are told the flights you want would only be available 2/3 days later?
They then send you home to look for another hotel and wouldn't give you your original hotel of choice because "it was fully booked"?
You call them and you are finally offered Sharm, so you still departed 2 days later than your original holiday AND to a totally different destination/hotel?
You eventually do go on holiday, and arrive to find a quiet hotel?

1. Did you have travel insurance? Have you tried claiming off them?
2. When you booked were you not emailed/posted written confirmation of flights, hotel etc?

This is just so shocking, it's madness!

A lot of flights to Egypt were cancelled / amended last year as visitor numbers were a lot lower than anticipated, so it sounds to me as though you booked your holiday with On the Beach, who then booked your flight and hotel separately.
I would imagine they did book you a flight originally for the Tuesday and then the airline cancelled the flight and switched you to the Friday. The airline will have informed OTB but obviously they failed to inform you.
If they'd told you when they found out you could have made alternative arrangements and swapped dates etc avoiding disappointment! Somebody, somewhere at OTB has missed the flight change and you've ended up with a lot of hassle.
Personally I would suggest emailing them / writing them a letter and asking for a full refund for the holiday you didn't get. This is a pretty big !!!! up really and you should be entitled to some form of refund.
