whats fair wear and tear

we should be moving soon out of our rented flat.

what would be considerd fair wear and tear after 6 years.

when we moved in the LL promised us a new kitchen the one in there is 1970s and a new bathroom all we got in six years was 1/2 a bathroom.

I know the flat will need a complete refurb when we move out so is it worth repaining the walls and ceiling (The ceiling has wallpaper on it and over the years we have stuck it back up)

we dont want to lose our deposit but i cant see the point in spending a lot of money either

what do you think thanks

I wouldn't repaint the walls and ceiling, other than retouching any scuff marks, and filing in any holes you created when hanging pictures etc. If your not sure the paint is correct, paint a small inconspicuous area first, and see how it looks when it's dry.

Other than that, just give it a good clean. Don't assume the LL will refurbish. You could always ask the LL what his plans are, but probably only worthwhile if you can trust him, or get in writing that you are not required to clean something because it will be disposed off etc.

Best to ask plans. My last tenants asked but as I was painting and replacing carpets I just asked them to make sure the bathroom and kitchen was spotless.

Don't trust anything the landlord says. If there are any marks that could be held against you then repaint the wall carefully.

Fading or wall paper coming away from the wall I wouldn't worry about but any stains or marks you should put right.

Was a proper check in report done? Got photos from when you moved in?

After 6 years the LL has had his use of the carpet and paint and most other things - I presume nothing was brand new.
