Multi MPAN Complex metered site
We've recently moved into a property that npower consider a "complex metered site". Basically there are 2 MPANs for the property, 1 for the single rate elec meter and 1 which was de-energised back in 2013. The house has gas central heating and functions like a standard house with a normal elec meter and normal gas meter.
However because of the complex metering issue npower have advised I will struggle to change supplier (only SP and BG support multi mpans) and I cant even have a normal monthly DD - they can only offer a standard quarterly DD.
I'm arguing that the de-energised 2nd MPAN means the property is now standard surely? Can the 2nd MPAN be stripped away from the account?
Has anyone any experience of multi mpan billing or a similar situation?

If the Mpan is de- energised any supplier should be able to take this over as a single Mpan.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

I'd also question the idea that they are the only two suppliers who will take you on. Certainly there are a number of suppliers who would process you as a non-standard account application.
Who is it that has given you this information? If it was one of the two companies you listed that than advice seems a little dodgy.0 -
Two MPANs suggests the property originally had something like E10 metering with afternoon boast. The 2 MPANs will be related and must stay together with the same supplier. As you say one MPAN is de-energised and therefore no meter and you now have gsh I suggest you do the following. Contact nPower, I suggest by email/post, tell them you want the spare MPAN disconnected and once this has happened you want them to set the MTC for the remaining MPAN to be set to a none related one. Once this has been done you will be free to choose any supplier.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Thanks for the advice everyone - npower are looking into getting the 2nd mpan shut down and getting the account "standard". Fingers crossed.
