Warm Home Discount/supplier switch
Checking with the price comparison tool on here and having been advised that I can save £200 per month on dual fuel seems a no brainer not to change supplier. However: we're due a "warm home discount" payment from our current supplier (British Gas) and I don't want to put that £140 in jeopardy by leaving before it's paid. We don't automatically qualify, but we do meet BG's specific criteria. Last year the WHD was paid in March so I'm inclined to hold on until at least then.
Also we've been overpaying so I've varied our DD payments, reducing them from Feb to May and then we'll be fully paid up (all things being equal) so pay nothing at all in June.
That makes me inclined to stick with them until then.
Can someone just offer opinion as to whether this seems a sensible approach. Thanks.

I would stay till the WHD is paid but check your figures. If you can save £200 per month that means £2400 per year! What is your yearly bill?Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Sorry, my mistake, that should have been £200 per year.

Apologies but just like to give this a shameless little bump as it'll soon be the working week so hopefully more on. Thanks.“Procrastination is my middle name....well it would be if I could be ar**d to contact Deed Poll."0

My discount with Scottish Power has been paid already, earlier than last years was.But it seems it is only credited to your account when you generate a bill by inputting your readings.
So if you only do that every 3 months, then do it now,the facility should be there, though I don't know how their website works. Then you may find it will be sitting there waiting for you.
Failing that why not ring them and ask.0 -
SP paid mine in dec and i am in the broader group, last year it was in march, did get an email to say they had paid it and when put in monthly readings it was sitting in my bill. Brill!0

Don't rely on the comparison site's prediction. Go to the chosen supplier's site and enter your figures there.
The reason for this is that comparison sites often (always ?) compare a special tariff elsewhere with standard from your present supplier (on the assumption that this is what you'd pay when your fixed tariff ends).0
