I currently have no hot water and I am awaiting an engineer visit from British Gas as part of my home care . I know they will suggest a new boiler as it was suggested last year that I should consider it
Does anyone know of any good deals on boiler at the moment

I wouldn't go with BG they tend to often condemn boilers when you can get parts. Even that said they are over priced. you can often get new boiler/installation between 30-50% less with a independent heating engineer
  • I've decided, despite many bad reviews to stick with Ferroli modea 32KW for around £600. The reason I will stick with it is, my existing ferroli worked for 8 years without any problem, now is time for change. They give 5 years guarantee, so it's helpful. It's double cheaper compared with a leading brands, so I guess it's worth of risk.

Make, model and description of perceived issues please?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

The Homecare check is less of a service and more of a "see if we can find something wrong with it" check.

My boiler is 35+ years old and BG try to scare us every year about how they cannot do anything if it goes wrong because original parts are not avaliable. On my last check the engineer took 1 hour instead of the usual 20mins. Thought he was being more thorough but just as he was coming to the end of the check he was really poking around the boiler when he suddenly announced that he had got a carbon monoxide detection and that was it. Capped of and sealed, no questions. No attempt at repair nor investigation.

This was just before winter started.

We asked where the leak was and what the options were. They made their excuses about the asbestos rope seal not being available these days nor accessible to repair. Asked to see area manager be he reaffirmed what the engineer said. They said we had no option but a new boiler or trying to live on electric.

I was suspicious so asked a local plumber to have a go. He accessed the old rope seal immediately. It looked fine but he replaced it anyway with a new (available) non-asbestos rope seal. Found that British Gas had not been maintaining it much at all, found many leaves in it and the heat proof insulation was in a bad way. Remember, this was just after a check by British Gas! He cleaned and replaced the insulation.

All fixed and fired up perfectly with no detection.

I claimed the cost of the local plumber back from British Gas.

Forgot to add: Needless to say, I cancelled my BG Homecare and now save the equivalent amount in a separate account, ready for when I need it. If I do not need a repair I will have eventually saved up for a new boiler, when I need one.
