Ex with debts!

My ex partner moved out about 4 months ago and has left me no forwarding address. He is in alot of debt in his own name. We did have one joint bank account that is now closed. He knows someone that works at the sorting office who is collecting his mail and giving it to him so all his bills still have my address on. I am now getting 3 or more phone calls a day from his credit card and loan companies trying to track him down. I have told them he is no longer at this address and provided them with his mobile number. Is there anything else I can do? Should I also contact the credit reference agencies to inform them of the sitaution?
All help / advice appreciated!
Thanks x

I believe that you can put a note on your credit file saying that you are no longer associated with x person, and that you have no knowledge of his where abouts.
I would also be tempted to collar the mate who is collecting his mail and tell him to tell your ex to get it sorted because of the hassle it is causing you. What the mate is doing is also illegal but that is another matter. Your ex should really set up a redirection for himself

Put a note on your credit file as Chevalier says and is there no way you can find out were he lives. Also whenever you get mail for him do not open it and return to sender stating clearly that X does not live here anymore. If you keep accepting the letters they will keep sending them. If these companies keep bothering you I would send a letter (special delivery) explaining that he has moved and that they are no longer to contact you about his debts.Don't ever be anybody's slogan because you are poetry

you should also make a formal complaint to the sorting office, or royal mail HQ naming the individual and demanding that the practice stop immediatelycurrent debt as at 10/01/11- £12500

Kerry,as chevalier said, what ex's mate is doing is illegal. It's a tough one as you probably don't want to get his mate into trouble. That is typical RM customer services. They don't care about the general public anymore, just big businesses, but that's another issue. I would phone up again & if they don't sort it ask to speak to the Delivery Office Manager. Failing that,go to the local Delivery Office & demand to speak to the Delivery Office manager face to face. Also,as Madnessa said, any mail that doesn't get intercepted return it to sender. Thanks everyone. I will def do that KME91. Madnessa, the only address I have is for his daughter. I have texted him and told him that if he does not inform these companies of his new address that I will start giving her address out to them as his new address. Problem is, she is a lovely girl and I really don't want to do this! I am not receieving any mail as it is being filtered at the sorting office by this so called friend!0

Check your credit files and see what they say.
If they show you as fiancially associated then ask the credit agencies to remove the association as there are no longer any joint accounts.
Do not put a note on your credit files explaining the situation as this will cause you endless hassle... get the association removed.
If the post office staff are informally redirecting mail (as opposed to there being an formal redirection in place) then this is a criminal offence. Write to the post office to complain but be very careful what you write unless you have real proof... perhaps using words like ' I have been told' rather than 'know'.0 -
I would tell him what you are going to do first,as it will be his mate who will get into trouble. That way if he still has this arrangement with his mate, then it will be his fault that his mate will get into trouble, not yours. If his mate values his job,he will stop this arrangement immediately.Debt at LBM(July 1st 07)-£35,053.92 Debt on 1st Anniversary of LBM(July 1st 08)-£33,170.11 (31st January 09)-£32,318.73Paid off so far £2,735.19(7.8%) Average paid off p.m. £143.95 L/H supporter 115 DFD target February 2018 DFD March 2028. Think you will find that as its his mail being unofficially redirected with his consent its not a criminal offence. The addressee is the one who can complain that their mail is not being delivered as addressed and he isn't going to do that as its his arrangement. RM's redirections normally cost to set up so he and his mate are abusing the system but as its so trivial RM are unlikely to do anything about it.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Hmmmm Definitely get the association removed from your credit file - easy enough to get done

Once that happens then send a letter to any creditor you DO know about and inform them that x doesn't live there anymore, there appears to be a mail redirect in place (don't mention it's dodgy) but you wish to make sure that they are aware he is no longer at your address. This is his number, this is his daughters address but you have no further contact details. Please can they confirm that they have removed YOUR address from the system linked to his name and then send by recorded post
If you CAN track him down then do so and hand them his postal address
