Software that can handle Small Firm VAT?

Hello

I've been looking for a software package for my business (of 1).

I cant' seem to find any that can handle the Small Firm tax, i.e. my clients pay me 17.5% but I only pay 12.5% to the VATman.

Also none of them seem to have integrated timesheets which woudl make my life a lot easier.

I am happy to pay but it needs to do the job, otherwise I'll stick to spreadsheets!

Any ideas?

Thanks
I love it when a plan comes together :rotfl:

    Hi Heleen

If you already have spreadsheets then do you really need to buy a dedicated package?
Excel is an amazing program and could easily accommodate what you're looking for.
If you're handy with excel it could be arranged in just a few minutes.
Timesheets may be able to be integrated depending on what you're after - excel can look at cell values in other files so getting values isn't difficult.

It all depends what you're after but Excel might be able to do it.

feel free to PM me if you want any tips or help on setting it up.

    Thanks,

My spreadsheets have served me well for 5 years so I think you're right, but I would like it to be fool-proof (I'm £10k out looking at my end of year, which is a bit odd) and there is some duplication of effort in what I do (timesheet -> Invoice; credit card payment -> detailed expenses.) I liked the idea of teh balance check with the bank at all times (which I now do manually once in a while).

However, havign just downlaoded some trials, none of them seems particularly flexible, particularly when it comes to the Small Firm VAT.

My company uses excel for monitoring schemes all the time. I work for local authority and many of our jobs are several tens of thousands. One of my collegaues is using excel to monitor budget on a £1.8m scheme. VAT, grants, contractor payments, extra works, removed works etc.

If you have an error in your money then either there is a formula fault or you've got a typo somewhere.
Common mistakes (I've done this a few times) is to highlight the wrong range in a sum - it means fewer (or more) numbers are added than should be so you get an incorrect answer.
