What is this grey 'thing' on my screen and how do I get rid of it?

For the past two days I've had this grey thing (can't think of a better word) on my screen. I've no idea what it is, and I can't right click to close it or bring up any options. Screenshot on Link

It can be moved around, but doesn't go away. It's there as soon as Windows boots up.

Does anyone have any ideas about it and how I can remove it?

Thanks in advance :)

  • You might want to try the screenshot again, it's more or less just an empty white box.

It's in the top left of the screenshot, that's how big the grey thing is.
I've just worked out it's Comodo Message Centre responsible for it - I still can't see a way of removing it (apart from uninstalling Comodo)?

I was going to ask if it was Comodo. For no apparent reason, I've suddenly experienced the same thing.

Do you use the widget? I don't, but I think it's something to do with that. If you right-click on the tray icon and select "Widget", try un-ticking all the options. Then close and restart Comodo.

I'm not 100% sure that's fixed it, but the mysterious grey blob hasn't appeared since.

    Thanks :)
Unticking the widget options and disabling notifications/message centre on the settings seems to have done the trick so far.

That Comodo program tends to drag on.
  • This site really needs a [GROAN] button sometimes.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

At the end of the day, I asked a simple question and got some helpful, simple answers. Problem sorted.
The back button might prove useful while your suggested 'Groan' button is missing on MSE.

So that jokes gone completely over your head then, he was suggesting a groan button in repose to the joke about comodo dragging on......... As in a comodo dragon....get it?

Yes, obviously it did. Sorry, have removed evidence of my deliberate misinterpretation...

Hmmm... Well the mysterious grey blob has re-appeared, so disabling the widget options hasn't helped after all... How annoying! :-/
