  • Hi Stu
I have read through your diary and I have to say you are making massive steps, I know every phone call, opening letters, checking your bank account takes such courage, you are doing great!

As a mum I would be heartbroken if my son was unable to open up to me over debt, thank goodness you confided in you family before it was the end.

You will find it a lot easier to move forward once you truly forgive yourself, you are addressing your debts you are going to repay the debt and for this you should be proud. So you got into debt, most people do at some point in their lives you have now got that experience out of the way, and can look forward to the positive joy that you will experience when your debt is paid off.

Please keep posting and let us know how you are getting on, there are many wonderful posters on here with great advice.

    Best wishes

    Hi

Not posted for a while so thought it was time for an update. Regarding my IVA application, all the paperwork has now been completed and the insolvency firm have prepared my proposal for the creditors. Thank goodness there are these companies out there because I would'nt know where to start. They said it's a solid proposal and I should have a good chance of being accepted. I've been told the creditors meeting is set for this coming Friday, so by then I should have a good idea what will be happening. To be honest I'm kind of in limbo at the moment, counting the days til Friday. It's a good job I'm not supersticious as it's on Friday 13th LoL.
I had another appointment with the GP last week. She is happy with the way things are progressing. She doesn't want me to return to work until after I hear about the IVA decision. Health wise though I am feeling better and starting to put on some of the weight that I lost (thanks to Mums cooking). I'm also not drinking as much as I used to, which can only be a good thing. Im going back to my own house tomorrow for a couple of days, it still feels a little strange but the more I'm there the more comfortable I'll feel.
Thanks for the continuous messages of support, they really do help :)

Just dropping by to say well done, your doing fantastic!

Stick around even after your IVA comes through to pick up tips on how to do day to day things outside the debt cycle. I picked up useful things on here that got me out of being credit card dependant. If you've used cc's for everyday life it can be hard to get used to not having them around. So use the site well the people in here have amazing tips.

Good luck in your journey and well done for being so brave x

Congrats on getting the willpower together to start sorting your debts. Quick question, once the IVA has gone through, will your wages cover your fixed outgoings? This is where a statement of affairs might be helpful.

You may have already done one for the IVA firm, but this will be for post IVA acceptance. As you won't have access to credit at all, you will need to figure out how you can make your wages stretch.

    Good luck

    Hi

Fantastic news! My IVA proposal has been accepted :j I realise this isn't the end of all my problems but it's a massive step forward. I will now be paying a sensible amount each month towards the debt and still be able to keep up a decent standard of living. The payment will be less than a third of the total of what I was paying to C/C's, Loans etc. It will last for 5 years then the remaining debt will be written off :).
I am now feeling alot more positive towards life in general. Tomorrow I will be leaving my parents house and returning back home. My first shift back at work will be this coming Friday. I'm a little anxious about returning but as the GP said, it is to be expected after being away for so long. I'm looking forward to seeing my friends again and I will be telling a select few what has been going on for the past couple of months.

    Onwards and upwards......

    Cheers

Hi Stu, congratulations! I'm so pleased everything is coming together and you can get back in control of your finances.

Good luck with the move home and return to work. I hope you can even enjoy it now your mind need not be on your debts - although I wonder if that will be a hard habit to break?

Perhaps when you have had a few days settling in you can start thinking about how you will plan your money and budget to help you keep your finances well from here. I'm a big YNAB software budgeting fan and there are lots of others on here.

    Onwards and upwards! x

Great news - what a difference 2 months can make (since your first post).

I'm so pleased things are being sorted and your getting back to your own home and back to work. Today is the beginning of the rest of your life and it will be a debt free one before you know it :)
