Toyota with MMT

Check out the Daihatsu Sirion 1.3 Auto, made in Japan using the same Toyota engine and constantly gets better reviews than the Yaris. The Honda Jazz auto is said to be good but personally I think they are not very roomy, the front seats don't go back very far. Perodua Myvi is a great car with a proper gearbox, its the same car as the Toyota they sell in Japan and Daihatsu.
Also try the Suzuki Swift and Kia Rio, both very good.0 -

Thanks for this, I will look at all these cars - I never realised it would be so complicated. If I didnt want an auto it wouldn't be so difficult but with having to drive through rush hour London traffic an auto is so much easier and stressfree.0 -
I have aygo MMT, its great. The stuff about it being slow is not true. If you want to get a move on then you have the manual mode to get a move on. I get about 55-60 mpg from the MMT!0

Alot of cars have this set up now - all to do with keeping emissions down!
The gear box is a manual one with an electronic clutch. Bad idea, they can be problematic, we don't like them.
I believe VW do a small car with a fully auto box? If you want a Toyota auto (proper) then its an Avensis or any of their bigger range.
Alternatively, I drive a Focus with a 'proper' autobox. Its nice ...But my road tax is not as cheap as the MMT's and the like - but frankly, my dear, I don't give a damm.. :rotfl:

Get a "traditional" auto! A few less mpg but more reliable & nicer to drive in the long run.
Toyotas MMT & the VW variant (DSG?) are actually manual gearboxes with an automated change. They still have a clutch & everything associated with a manual just that the electronics control it all.
Sadly they haven't got all the programming sorted yet & they can leave you stranded when trying to nip into traffic
After 40-50000 miles they are a liability with mucho expense.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

I've owned a VW with a DSG gearbox which quite honestly was brilliant, better than the conventional autobox in the Mercedes C Class I had before that.
The Toyota MMT in my Yaris (you have to make some savings when retired) is fine, smooth changes are easy if you ease of the accelerator as the gearbox changes gear, and in two years I've never been "stranded" joining traffic!0 -
This post has been dragged up from 2007 I am sure the OP has chosen her car by now.0

Indeed, and Deal Drivers still hasn't come back to correct things.0

i have a yaris 2006 and it is now on its second clutch plate and clutch assembly
the first time it was under warranty so was not a problem now its out of warranty and looks like it is going to cost me a small lot of money it's only done 35,000 miles i wish i never brought this heap of rubbish its like trying to drive a kangaroo down the street and when it settles down it can leave you stranded with lack of power when you need it0 -
Has any one had any joy out of Toyota about the gear box problems when the warranty is expired when they first fixed it no questions asked was just done as they said it was a known problem. They did not tell me it would only last just over a year and then your on your own.
Any help would be great0
