Easy money saving with LEDs

Options
Hi to all money savers :)

About a year ago, i just found out how easy it is to save money with those new LED lights. In first place, they seem to be more expansive than normal light bulbs. But they will pay of after using them a few month/ years because of their very low energy consumption.
The calculation for that may be a little complex for someone who is not used to this topic, feel free to use your own values:

LED power consumption: 12W= 0.012 kW
Normal light power consumption: 100W = 0.1kW
Numbers of lights installed: 4
Energy Price: 15 cent per kilowatt hour = 0,15$/kWh
Daily usage (lights on): 4 hours
Days in a year using the lights: 200 days

Annually energy costs for normal lights: 4 x 0,1 kWh x 200 days x 4 hours x 0.15 $ = 48$

Annually energy costs for LED lights: 4 x 0,012 kWh x 200 days x 4 hours x 0.15 $ = 5,76$

Did you also made some positive experiences with LEDs, or do you have any questions about them? Here, in germany i have to pay about 25 €cent for one kWh, what is your rate in your country?

Very few LED lamps available that will produce the same light output as a 100W incandescent lamp.
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • Unfortunately LEDs are also carcinogenic.

I believe most people already use energy saving light bulb.
So you are talking 20W/hr vs 9W/hr. The only major difference is changing 50W halogen to 5W LED.

So, tell me who you work for. I am willing to buy. 3 watt gu10 spotlights, equivalent to 50w halogen, pack of ten for £30, it's a deal! I promise to fit and pretend that they're better than 50w halogen, 'cos I'd be embarrassed to admit that I'm an idiot.

That's correct. I wonder how long it will take untill even more 1000lm+ LEDs will hit the market. For now my personal favorite are A++ Filament LEDs but they are only available up to 450lm. Hope this will change soon.

That is new to me. Until now i thought only energy saving light-tubes are having this problem. Why are LEDs carcinogenic?

That is a good point. If someone already uses those energy saving lights the benefit of replacing it with an LED will not be very high. In that case i would wait until the energy lights will break.

You don´t answer any question, your contribution to this topic is equal to zero, and you are offending my work.
    Please stay on the topic!

I work for myself. Replacing 50W halogen lights with 3W LEDs may be good for the environment but not so good for your lighting. A 50W halogen spot has about 500lm which is better replaced with a 6W or 7W LED. 10 good 6W LEDs will cost you about 40-50£. Please take also a look at the energy rating, A++ is the best you can get at the moment. Most people also prefer the warm-white version. If you find the letters "2700K" on the product, then you are right.
