computer freezing, windows slow..help?

Hello everyone

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice. Everytime i turn my computer on it freezes within a minute or two.

I checked a few things on safe mode. It said super fetch wasn't working. I downloaded something called driver doc months ago, didn't use it, and it didn't seem to cause any problems. I've noticed though that its not doing its usual scan when i start the computer up now. Wondering if its slowing windows down or something.

Before i pay out loads to sort this i just wondered if any one has any advice. Maybe its something simple that i could do? Thanks for your thoughts

  • Install CC Cleaner and run both the main cleaner and the registry cleaner.

Also, run a full AV scan and Error Checking.

Disable anything you don't really need, in Startup.

I suspect that the questions the experts will ask are:-

Full make and model of the computer - desktop or laptop??

    Operating system? Windows? Which version?

    :)
  • Thanks. I've tried thanking you guys but my phone won't allow it, lol. I have cc cleaner, done the first two scans repeatedly. Will try the rest.

For some experts it is 5.23am...and they haven't been to bed yet.

In addition, they are trying to enjoy a holiday from writing guides.

So I would suggest to back up important data and to run a Factory Restore.

You could also try System Restore which will allow you to change your system back to a time in the past when it was working properly.

It won't affect any of your files or programs but can help make your system atleast more bearable while you diagnose the issue.

And as NiftyDigits suggests, back up important data, to be on the safe side.

  • Thanks. I really appreciate it. I ran a system restore a few times. The computer only gives me one choice of time for restoring and this is not before the original problem. If i could work out how to set the time further back that could help.

I will try all this stuff again though. Thanks. Typing on mobile so have to be brief but appreciate this :-)

Factory Restore and System Restore are not the same.
  • thanks everyone.

It seems I've downloaded some sort of scanner on the computer and as long as I let it perform it's scan when I start up the computer, everything is ok. I can't seem to uninstall it, but it otherwise doesn't seem to cause a problem (apart from I have to wait 10 mins on start up for it to do it's thing)

You can stop it from starting up with Windows, from the CCleaner interface.

But really...you should just get rid.

You possibly have a load of adware or malware on the system, give malwarebytes a shot at cleaning it. Has your search bar been hijacked by mysearch or something similar by any chance ?
