Options
Have just bought a car on finance, mainly for my partners use.
I use every now and then.

Can i change the Log book to her name, and get her insured as main driver, and me as a named driver?

I use maybe once a week, and she is home all day with our baby and drives each day.

Finance is in my name however,

Any help would be appreciated

Why do you want to add another keeper?

Just declare her as the main driver on your policy.

Not a very well thought out purchase was it?

The insurance quotes seem to rocket if she isn't the registered keeper and main driver.

She does not have any credit, hence me getting the car in my name

The finance is in your name. You want her to be the registered keeper.

First off, talk to the finance company - they may well have an issue with you changing the keeper to somebody they have no contract with. Remember, you borrowed the money on the basis that the car was security if you failed to repay.

Changing keeper may spook the finance company into thinking you have sold it and they will want the full balance now. Potentially stolen their property.

Have a look at your finance agreement. Near where it states in clear writing that the car has to be properly maintained and comprehensively insured, I'm sure it will remind you that the car cannot be transferred without their written, prior consent. Which they will not give.
Repossessing is a smooth game, why add to their costs?

Transferring means a change of ownership. A change of keeper is not a change of owner.

Please go ahead and invent interpretations of your own for the word transferred if you like, it makes not one jot of difference to the Finance House. Their money, their rules.
  • Hello!

I'm having trouble with my car finance! I'm due to move away to Univeristy in September, However I have a car finance ongoing. My mum said she could carrying on paying the finance IF the payments were lower! The finance company said I have £11,230 settlement figure on the car, I have just over 4yrs left. The negative equity i am assuming is around £3000/4000!!! Because I will be moving away I don't need the car nor will I be able to afford it. What do people suggest the best route to go down is?!

Please please PLEASE can somebody help!!!
