I know that Alan has said he wants to buy a house and that he doesn't want to live alone... just hoping he gets some good financial advice 'cos he may be in danger of loosing benefits and ending up the proverbial creek in a few years time.
There's a nice residential/flats for over 50s complex less than a mile from where he lives.. that might suit... he would have people around him and support if or when he needed it.
Sorry I'm twittering on, but I hope that this does all turn out well for him in the long run.

Afternoon all, just catching up. I assume he'd only lose benefits if his savings were over a certain level, then he'd be eligible again if they dropped below the threshold. If he's using it to buy a house there may be a period of grace, if he has his own house he won't be needing social housing or housing benefits. His basic pension won't be means tested. My concern would be in the longer term, eg having the means to maintain the house, replace the boiler when required etc, but I'm sure they'll take advice and there will be a way to sort it out. :A :)
    Hope is not a strategy.

Just received the following email :(

Perhaps my boss read this forum and told them I took a sickie :o Oh well, back to the jobsearch. Must look at the brightside, at least I don't have to iron my clothes now :D

Sorry Evangeline but are you sure it was from them seems a bit unprofessional and late in the day to cancel, what time was your interview, I was surprised you were not already on your way. And you left it late to be ironing clothes.

Yes, plenty shrapnel. Looks like they are on or up to 20p ones.
  • I know we have technology at our fingertips but you would have thought that a personal telephone call would have been a little more professional and appropriate. Are you definitely sure it's from them??
Yes it is. It's in the same email thread as previous communication. Not to worry I just think it wasn't meant to be and something better awaits me :) I've just applied for another job that appeals to me much more. I won't say any more yet though incase someone who knows me is reading this :D

I was late reading the email which was sent at 12:30pm. My interview would have been 6pm. I've been putting off that ironing all day :o:D
