I have tried to toggle between the yes and no
But it is very hit and miss
I can select the languages then trying to select
Unbuntu to load with out change is very hard to do as it isn't positive movements just hit and miss and very vague.
The keyboard arrows dont do / go where you want them to
There is no curser on the screen and when I press the arrows sometimes nothing happens so you don't know what's being clicked on
    Hard to explain.
    just bloody annoying :)

This is what I am getting http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-ubuntu-desktop
When I click / highlight on Try Ubuntu it goes to the install section as shown in the link.
I have Not installed it though but do get the Ubuntu desktop.
when I restart the pc I get the XP start up followed by the errors that's how I know it hasn't installed

Might be worth on this occasion downloading Puppy linux slacko (0nly a fairly small download of 162 mb) and use that as your live ISO and see if that gives a better result. Puppy linux is very good at accessing windows files.

use slacko-5.7.0-PAE.iso 162 mb and burn to cd or dvd or if using usb stick put the iso on it using rufus https://rufus.akeo.ie/
Then when you turn the PC on boot from the disc or usb device you put the ISO on.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/bootorderchange.htm explains how to change the boot order in bios.

    SUCCESS Hiren's works
    Very happy
When I copy all the photos and documents to a folder on my external hard drive can I be carrying a virus across?
I will be scanning the folder before opening it.
Thank you everyone for all your help

Scanning will take care of anything untoward.

Perhaps some details about the PC. Name brand? Motherboard model ASUS A8V MX or Deluxe?
One has two RAM slots, the other four.

One can update to the latest BIOS and disable the Controller if it is causing an issue. Then a clean install of an OS.

    ""The other Four"?
How do I find out about the ram slots?
Probably wont be doing anything today with it but I was considering doing this http://support2.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=307545 to get it to work.
Next time I turn the it on I with post the above details.
Wont I need all the driver details for a clean install od the OS?
Thank you very much for your help
