London - Washington - Miami or Orlando Flight Advice

Hi,
I want to go to Florida this August and spend 10 days in Florida before hopping up to Washington for 4 days and then back to London. I don't really mind if I fly into Orlando or Miami, but I would prefer the latter.
I can see flights for about £700 per person with United, but I wondered if anyone could advise on any "tricks of the trade" to split carriers or other tactics to make this cheaper / offer more options?
Really appreciate any advice out there!
Thanks

Possibly fly into Washington first-there are 3 airports to choose from.
Then fly out of Forida?
Or get a return flight LHR-Washington and then a return domestic USA flight?
August is the prime season from the UK so it aint gonna be cheap:eek:0 -
thanks for the suggestion, but doesn't seem any options - plus I specifically need the Washington stopover on the way back. Perhaps I should just accept £2800 is as good as it's going to get. That's with United (my least favourite airline..) from Heathrow on 18/8 to Washington for 2 hour stop, then Orlando, then back to Washington on 28/8 for 3 days and home on the 1/9.0

£650 for Virgin/Delta - London-Miami-Washington-London if you fiddle with the flights. Similar with Virgin/Delta and AA for the domestic. You'll probably get similar to Orlando but I didn't check.
Not much better than you already have.
2hrs isn't long enough to transit IAD, but probably ok for BWI (although I think the United flights are to IAD). There are no flights to the UK from DCA.Legal team on standby0 -
I'd play around with AA's website and include 'all carriers' and BWI airport.
Don't forget FLL airport has lots of JetBlue and Southwest flights.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Malkie76 - I like the sound of what you've found, but I must be doing something daft, as I simply cannot find those prices? I'm not very experienced at this, so could you help me out please...
What website are you using, I've been on the virgin atlantic UK site.
I put in London to Miami then Washington to London and it come back at £668, but I don't think that includes the domestic flight between Miami and Washington (I would also like to experiment with Orlando back to Washington)
Can you advise please? Many thanks in advance.0 -
The other "trick of the trade" is to start your journey EX UK
Use ITA Matrix software to get prices from Ex UK sites
A very quick search for DUB to MCO-return in (late) August brings up Virgin Atlantic at £440
Another search for your specific dates brings up £591 total on US airways from Brussels airport. BRU-MCO-DCA-IAD-LHR
You obviously have to factor in getting to BRU extra0 -
Try Delta.com where you'll find Virgin flights with Delta codes.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

They will be excluding the internal US flight. But that's not a problem you'll be able to book a one way Florida - Washington flight no problems at all with many options.0 -
The whole itinerary on the dates you gave can be booked for £630 with Delta/Virgin:
18/8 Heathrow -Miami (Direct)
28/8 August Fort Lauderdale - Washington National (via Atlanta)
1/9 Washington Dulles - Heathrow (Direct)
Searched via kayak multi city. Book through lastminute.com at that price. Expedia were £645 for the same. It didn't give a price for Delta direct. The only catch with that itinerary is the internal flight isn't direct.
You could book the transatlantic only flights for £650 via lastminute.com also. You could then add on a one way Miami - Washington. A quick look shows Southwest fly direct from Fort Lauderdale to Baltimore a few times a day. They're not on sale yet for the end of August but dates in July show $99 so about £70. Southwest include generous baggage allowance which nearly all other airlines in internal US flights no longer do.0 -
