Severance of Joint Tenancy to Tenants In Common Please help

Hi wonder if people could help me.

My mum wants to make a will, we saw a solicitor before xmas. She is seperated from my dad for years and they jointly own their house. At the moment they are joint tenants and she needs to change her tenancy to tenants in common so she can leave her half to her children. We asked the solicitor to sever the tenancy as we were not sure on doing it ourselves, doubtful my dad will sign it.

I forgot to give them my dad's address to send it to so I called the solicitor the week before last and gave it to them. They said they will send the severance and the fee for that to our house.

We still haven't received it so I called the solicitor Tuesday and she said she has drafted it and it is sitting on her supervisors desk waiting for him to approve it and hopefully be sent this week.

My question is should it take this long? It's only a letter and then after that we still have to see if my father replies then sign the will etc. It's stressful waiting for this to be sorted, we were thinking if we don't receive anything by the end of next week which will be the fourth week just go to a different firm?

I was thinking to chase it up with the solicitor again Monday. If someone could please help with any info would be very greatful. Thanks
