How can I find out when a property was built

Options
I am interested in finding out the year in which some properties were built. Does anyone know of a website which would be able to give me this information. If the information is not available online is there any other way I could find out when a house was built.

ask some local estate agents; one might know.
ps sometimes you will get a date stamped on
for example. a rainwater drain lid.

I would initially try the local council planning office who can tell you when planning permission was granted for a property (don't know how far back their records go but would be different for each council)!

Then if I'm considering buying a property I use http://www.landregisteronline.gov.uk/, you get a copy of the title and plan of the property for £4 and is VERY USEFUL.

Estate agents always are suprised when I tell them who owns the property, when they bought the property, and sometimes how much they bought it for ! :)

    Cheers

This is a question everyone should be able to answer - at least if you have buidings/contents insurance since you are required to tell the insurance company!

But have you ever tried asking an insurance company how you find out the information? The problem is they do not know either!

    Ok, anorak time.
If you are trying to discover when an estate or similar development was first built, try asking the local electricity distribution company when they bought or took out the lease on the nearest sub-station site. They are not obliged to tell you but if you're really nice, they might tell you. Chances are the sub-station was built the same year as the estate. Their records should go back about 100 years. I used to give people this info all the time. Its no big secret. :)
    I know nothing - really!!
