This thread interests me as I had a very similar thing with Halifax. I had the mailshot and when I phoned they asked me for a reason. I said I would use part of it to make an extra mortgage payment and I was told this wasn't a suitable reason. Was completely taken aback as wasn't expecting to be asked for a reason - I wonder what a suitable reason is. Can't see why it matters as I've always paid them back in the past.

That was the purpose of my original post, to warn people that the Halifax are doing this. If I'd have known beforehand, I would have said I was buying a car or something.0 -

When I've had these offers in the past (as listed earlier in the thread), if they've come by post the leaflet has generally given some examples of what you could use the money for.
Are Halifax not doing this?0
