Problems with London Mint

I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct part of the forum but I am assuming it is a consumer issue. Basically my father, who is a pensioner, has been drawn into purchasing various coins from various 'Mint' companies (Royal, London, Windsor, Westminster, Danbury). I found out he had got himself into financial difficulty because of it so I tried returning the latest coins he had ordered with London Mint as we were still in the 2 week timeframe, this was at the beginning of Oct 2014. They were £395 and unfortunately my Dad had already paid £197 of it. Nonetheless London Mint agreed that we could return them so we did (I believe to the address they provided but as my Dad sent it I cannot be 100% sure). A week later I called to check they had received the coins but they had not, we waited a couple of weeks longer but still no sign of them so they asked us to post them the proof of posting which my Dad did on 1st Nov. I called a week or so later to check they had received that to be told they hadn't received that either! Then strangely enough they called me later to say they had in fact received it and a refund would be processed soon. This was 2 months ago! I proceeded to chase them every week and spoke to various different people who said they would find out and call me back but they never did. Finally last week someone did call me back only to tell me that the proof of posting is not acceptable as it has a Guernsey postcode on it and it should have been sent to Wales. I have looked up the postcode and it does not seem to be a valid address but some companies do have PO Boxes registered at this postcode. I cannot understand what could have happened here as my Dad took the coins down to the post office and posted them to the address that I assume London Mint provided him with, otherwise I do not know where else he could have got the address from. I am now wondering that perhaps London Mint set up a PO Box to receive the coins and this is now closed as it seems odd that it took them 2 months to tell me that there was a problem with the proof of postage especially as I called every week, sometims twice. Unfortunately there is no tracking no as it was freepost so it was just sent via normal mail. I just wanted to find out if anyone else had experienced this with London Mint providing a bogus address as I have seen various forum trails of people complaining they are a scam. If anyone can share their experiences I would be very grateful!!

  • Firstly I would recommend that you contact Royal mail to find out more about the proof of posting and the address that you sent them to.

Unfortunately it looks like the London Mint has a poor reputation.

Do you know how he paid for these? If it were credit card then he may be able to do something under section 75

It's an 8 month old thread and the OP hasn't logged on in, erm 8 months so you a bit late to be venting your frustrations out on the good people who try and help.
