hallo! i need help... so i'm picking up a new car today and i'd set up my insurance to be for the new car as of today.
today the dealers called me and said i have to have the insurance that they recomend (its 7 days free) otherwise i can't have the car today becuase they won't accept a fax cover note...
i call their insurance people and they said i have to tell my insurers that the new car isnt being picked up for a week and then i can have theirs for a week and then mine after that...
so complicated!
does anyone know if i can jsut tell the dealers to bog off and i'll keep my own insurance?

When i picked my new car up they also told me i would get 7 days free insurance. Standard practice as far as i know. But i did get my own cover to start on the day i picked it up, dealer did'nt have a problem with it.If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.0

Take their insurance - it's only necessary so that they can tax the car. Otherwise you'll have to wait for the dealer to receive the certificate from your own insurer which could be a while with the postal problems.
Don't bother calling your own insurers to amend the changeover date, it's not necessary.0 -
The "free" insurance is being insisted on because it's a marketing gimmick to get you to renew after 7 days through the nominated insurance company. Plus the dealership will get commission if you go ahead and renew.
Just use their insurance and if you have to claim on it when you have a prang then so be it.The man without a signature.0 -

yeah that's what i thought - they quoted my brother £1000 for the year (bargain!!!)
The "free" insurance people told me i couldnt have both insurances running at the same time as they'd both be invalid.
anyway i gave the dealer the faxed covernote of my insurance and he said "oh great thanks, it has to be the original or the post office won't accept it". i stayed quiet and lo and behold the post office accepted it! harrah._____________________________________________
