What price should you expect to pay for a used car

    If it's a place like Car Giant or big car supermarkets then the prices are normally fixed so you can't haggle. The mention of admin fees makes me suspect it is one of those places.
    Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

    No Jimjames it was a Volvo dealership. All the garages (all dealerships) have quoted an admin charge of around £50. I've never asked what it's for as they have all offered to waive it without fail! The original garage mentioned above rang today to offer another £200 off the price of the car, so I guess it was right to hold our nerve, but in the end we'd found another, better car for the same price so we've gone with that!
