I find the subject of this thread unsettling.
Without debating who is contractually allowed to do this, nor who has not until now noticed this, that or the other, nor how it was done, it raises the spectre of personal data given in good faith but encouraged by an unusual level of trust in a financial brand (which might one day be said to put an unusual duty of care on MSE), and then that data showing up in ways demonstrating it has been used freely as a commercial asset. Some might say it has not been used willy-nilly, but it is clearly being used for something commercial.
And that is a bit unexpected on this site, even though most of us are aware that Martin sold out most of his interest in MSE to Moneysupermarket.com Group for up to £87M.

I have now contacted the Data Protection Officers of both MSE and MoneySupermarket to stop the renewal quotes and let me know the reason for the searches in March 2014. Let's hope I have a response soon
