Britannia Parking PCN - clarification please!

I received a PCN from Britannia Parking yesterday much to my surprise after purchasing a ticket. It was not a car park I have used before and I didn't quite understand the layout of the ticket as there was no clear expiry time, however I had put money in the machine and it had displayed I had paid up until 3 hours time so I put it on the dash the way up it stated to do so - fully wary of this since receiving a council ticket only recently over the new year where my ticket had flipped and only just winning that appeal.
Now upon further inspection of the ticket it seems the ticket I collected out the machine was in fact a previous users - I'm not sure if it is just a credit card receipt or a ticket as it does say to place this on the dash this way up. But the time on it is not clear if its the issue time or the expiry time, either way it was 30 minutes before my arrival time. I arrived at 14.15 and had paid £3 to cover up until 17.15 - or so I thought. The penalty was issued at 15.19-15.34. I have tried to attach photos of bought ticket but as a new user the forum will not allow me to post the dropbox link.
Now if there was CCTV it would show me clearly going to the machine and putting my money in, taking my ticket and placing in my car, but as I don't have the correct ticket I'm afraid I don't have much of a leg to stand on to appeal.
I have spent several hours reading all the threads re STICKY etc but on looking on their website it says I have to appeal within 28 days.
Do I still hold fast and await the postal letter?
The fine is for £85 £50 payment in 14 days so its a hell of a hefty fine especially as I am on benefits and had in fact made the trip to town to return xmas purchases to get some money back, and then found out the trip had cost me this!!
I did receive the PCN on the windscreen.
It is also worth noting I am on benefits due to stress and depression so I really don't want a huge drawn out fight on my hands if i can avoid it with demanding threatening letters.
Before the ticket at new year I never receive parking tickets. I have just started new meds a week ago so I am more absent minded than usual but I thought I had this ticket covered - more fool me for leaving the ticket I did not understand I guess.

wait for the NTK in the post, then send them the template appeal in the NEWBIES sticky
everybody has "a leg to stand on", so lose the guilt complex
you didnt set out to cheat the system, but their system can easily cheat you , so dont let it
appeal when the NTK arrives, then take it to popla if they dont cancel, then if you win you wont feel guilty at all
there are plenty of appeal points to be made, even if you dont have the proof of purchase (ticket)0 -
thank you ...that makes me feel much better...i don't feel guilty just don't want to pay the fine plus know my evidence is lacking0

Its NOT A FINE and your "evidence" means next to nothing to them!
You need to go back and read the Newbies Sticky a lot more carefully to avoid making basic mistakes like that.0
