Interview Tips & Advice Pls

Hi All

This is not really a DF topic but just wondered if any of you lovely people had some advice, hints or tips for interviews.

I have a job interview tomorrow afternoon and as i havent been for one in a while (ive been in the same job for quite a few years) i was wondering if anything had changed much ie the types of questions they ask or whether they still use them describe yourself questions, what are your weaknesses etc.

If it helps the interview is in a solicitors i didnt apply for a particular job as such i just sent out my cv and covering letter to a few places and got asked to attend for an interview tomorrow. I am also going to be studying law part time at college in September.

Any help or advice would be great thanks :)

    Hi hun, I work in the profession and the key thing for interviewees is to do their research about the firm. I know it sounds obvious, but the number of people that don't is unbelievable.

    Questions could be along the lines of 'what do you think that you would contribute to the firm', and the usual one 'why do you want to work for this firm'. If they know you are planning on starting college be prepared to talk about that too. But above all, nothing is more important than being confident, being yourself and smiling :). Good luck, let us know how you get on x

    I agree, definately do your research, you want to know the company inside out!

    Plus always have a firm handshake on meeting your interviewer and thank them for seeing you. When leaving, another firm handshake and thank them for their time, start and finish with a good impression.

    Good luck :D Let us know how it goes!

    Well ive been on the website but to be honest it doesnt tell you that much. Ive got all my information relating to my course to take and wrote down things they are likely to ask me.

    Do you think its worthwhile typing up my reference details to give them incase they need to contact them straight away without having to ask me for them or does that seem overly keen?

    TBH, I would be really impressed if a candidate handed the references over to me - best to do it at the end of the interview though. Also forgot to say, maintain eye contact - there is nothing worse than someone who stares at the floor/over your shoulder. x

  • Right well today is the day and im in the middle of preparing for my interview. I have thought of some questions to ask and have wrote them down, done research on the company, printed off my references and cv and am thinking of answers to questions they might ask me.

    Anyone else have any last minute interview tips or advice?

  • GOOOODDDD LUUUUCCCCKKKKK!!!! One final thing, think of a question you want to ask them. It is likely they will say at the end 'have you any questions' - it's really impressive to have a candidate ask you something (but obviously not something your research would have told you). Let us know hun (also will you keep me updated by PM as to how you get on with Halifax charges?) xx

    I know these are pretty basic ones, but when I do interviews at work I am still amazed by the number of people who don't do the following:

    * Arrive early
    * Turn off your mobile phone beforehand
    * Don't ask about salary
    * Don't wear jeans
    * Don't chew gum

    Sorry for stating the obvious, but about 50% of peeople I interview commit one of the above interview-crimes!!

    GOOD LUCK !!!!:beer:

    When they invite questions at the end, how about asking them what it was about your application that made them invite you for an interview - this ensures that the interview ends with them listing all the positive things you have to offer them without you having to do it for them. I tried this and although I didn't get that job it did help me in preparing for the next interview. Good Luck!
  • Thats a good one Pagso I'd never thought of that. Let us know how it goes smudgemanc
