Cancelling a holiday with Thomson?

Hi there,
me and my SO booked a holiday in January for November 2015, paying a low deposit on this. However due to unforeseen circumstances with work we are both unable to get time off!
Lesson learnt yes, but what are our options when we booked it instore? Do we pay off the rest of the deposit or? We would like to book another holiday to be honest at an earlier time, but the destination we are going to (Mexico) doesn't really allow for the weather to be that nice during September/October time
Thanks!

What the hell is a SO?
Generally assuming the rest of payments are due all you have lost is what you've paid to date. That said, many companies will be accommodating if you speak to them nicely and just ask to change your booking with them0 -
Thomsons aren't too bad actually in changing dates, go to the shop explain your circumstances and see what they say. What's wrong with Mexico in September / October?0

I didn't say anything was wrong with it? Just we are going to Cancun so Caribbean weather in September/October time doesn't allow for as much sun as we'd like. Think I've read somewhere we can change minds on a booking and just pay an amendment fee per person? Do Thomson do this?

This far out they probably wont charge any fee as long as you ask nicely and dont come in demanding your rights etc0 -

Guide To Our Amendment Fees Changes 29 days or more to departure
To change a name, passenger or passenger type
£50 per person
To change accommodation, flight time, airport, duration and/or to travel earlier than planned*
£50 per person
To travel later than planned Cancellation charges apply - see section 12 Cancellation charges apply - see section 12 Cancellation charges apply - see section 12
* please note there won’t be any reduction in the price you pay, even if your new travel arrangements are cheaper than the original booking.
Surely even if we've only paid £125pp so far it wouldn't matter

I'm not that sort of person in all honesty! I'm imagining the rest of the deposit will have to be paid? Sure the rest of the 'low deposit' is due March.

The deposit amount will be specified by us or your travel agent when your booking is made. If it is not specified then it will be the amount that we ask you to pay when you book, even if this is 100% of the holiday price. If you pay less than the deposit under a low deposit booking scheme, then this is only part of the deposit referred to in this paragraph. The remaining deposit will be due on cancellation or date specified at time of booking or on your confirmation invoice
Noted, thanks.
Though I'm still confused why if I amended absolutely everything this early with 10 months to go the price would still be the same?

Trying to put this in words without someone jumping down my throat, here goes. Once a company has your money and you've signed the paperwork you've made a booking. You now decide for whatever reason you can't go and want to change it, said company then has to spend how ever many man hours it takes to change the booking which probably takes a lot longer to do than selling you the 1st holiday. I would say they have been reasonable enough to let you change for an admin fee.0 -
You will be able to change it no problem. I don't think going a month earlier will be much different weather.travelover0
